The winemaker
History of the Cave de Tain since the 1930s
In 1933, Louis Gambert de Loche decided to create a cooperative structure made up of around a hundred winegrowers from the Rhone Valley to pool their forces and combat the problems associated with winemaking, preserving and marketing wine. The result was the Cave de Tain. This cooperative has a dual advantage: it enables producers to retain their autonomy and independence while belonging to a supportive, organized framework. Since 2011, Xavier Gomart has been Director of the Cave de Tain, which contains some of the world's most prestigious crus.
Prestige vintages
Rooted in a culture of perfect fruit and precise gesture, Cave de Tain is home to world-famous crus. It extends over more than a thousand hectares and produces 5.4M bottles. What's more, Cave de Tain is fortunate enough to have vines planted in all 11 districts of the appellation (Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Péray, Saint-Joseph, Cornas...), enabling it to produce cuvées from parcel selections. For example, some 30 hectares are planted in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, a cru in the northern Rhône Valley that is also the largest appellation in the area.
Parcel-by-parcel selection allows us to focus on the complementarity of several terroirs. David Quillin, Cave de Tain ambassador for the past 5 years, praises blending and parcel selections. Finally, Cave de Tain is ranked as the best cooperative winery in France. It is also listed for its unique wine heritage, and several hundred bottles of wine are set aside in the oenotheque to keep a record of these prestigious cuvées.
A winery committed to organic farming in addition to parcel selections
Certified since 2009, Cave de Tain is original in its commitment to organic farming and its singular CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) approach. Cave de Tain commits its properties to organic farming and puts sustainable development at the heart of its strategy, notably by proposing innovative solutions. For example, horse-drawn cultivation is used in mid-slope plots where tractors cannot pass, and winches or small tillers are used in steeply sloping plots with many walls. The Cave de Tain is also at the origin of the winegrower's collective for sustainable development, and is ultimately a player in a responsible, innovative and sustainable project.
