The winemaker
The Cave de Lumières is a wine cooperative located in the commune of Goult, in the department of Vaucluse, in the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region. The cellar offers wines of the three dresses, including nearly two-thirds in rosé, belonging in particular to the appellations Luberon and Ventoux.
Established since 1925 in the commune of Goult, the Cave de Lumières is one of the oldest cellars in the Luberon. It belongs to the hamlet of Lumières, a high place of pilgrimage famous in the region since the Middle Ages. Indeed, the name "Lumières" was chosen in reference to the apparitions of lights on the hillsides at the time. According to the archives, several miracles occurred during different pilgrimages.
The Cave de Lumières welcomes visitors for wine tastings. The village of Goult is also famous for its glassworks established in the 14th century, then its earthenware factories in the 18th century. This heritage brings many tourists to the region.
The founding president of the Cave de Lumières was Louis Barriot. Today, the company is run by Bruno Mille and Julien Fauque. They are supported by a dynamic team that regularly organizes events and activities around the productions of the Cave de Lumières.
Located facing the Luberon, between Cavaillon and Apt, the 487-hectare vineyard of the Cave de Lumières extends over the communes of Goult, Gordes, Joucas and Roussillon. Its parcels are located in the south of the Ventoux appellation and in the southeast of the Rhone Valley vineyards. 80 winemakers work on these lands to supply the winery.
Among the domains of the Cave de Lumières, the most famous are Domaine Terrus, Domaine Fontaube, Mas des Infermières or Château Thouramme.
The soils are very varied, depending on their geographical location. They are composed of calcareous scree for the Monts de Vaucluse, of clayey-sandy soils and ochreous sands for the vineyards located in the commune of Roussillon.
The grape varieties are vinified separately, before proceeding to the blending.
Rosé wines represent 61% of the production of the Cave de Lumières and red wines 36%. The grape variety is composed of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Carignan.
White wines represent 3% of the production. The grape varieties are Viognier, Clairette, Roussane, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc and Ugni Blanc.
The annual production is 30,000 hectoliters.
