The winemaker
Great Provencal terroirs
700 hectares of vineyards are covered, most of which are located in the Lubéron regional park and offer two appellations: AOP Lubéron and Ventoux. The Bonnieux winery also markets IGP méditerranée wines, vins de pays and vins de table.
Between the Rhone Valley and Haute Provence, the vineyards of the Bonnieux winery benefit from a privileged location for growing vines, with a wide variety of exposures and soils. Other crops also benefit from this particularly mild climate, including cherry and olive trees, lavender and truffle oaks.
The territory covered by the winery also extends into the neighboring communes of Roussillon, Goult, Gordes and Lacoste. Broadly speaking, there are two main areas. To the north, AOP Ventoux terroirs stretch over hills with varied soils. Around Roussillon, we find the characteristic ochre sands.
To the south, the vines are grown mainly in AOP Luberon on terraces mostly made up of sandy-clay soils. These are found mainly on the Lacoste cliffs and on the Claparèdes plateau behind Bonnieux.
The winemakers work in harmony with the characteristics of each terroir, producing wines of character, richness and aromatic complexity.
The cellar
Skills
The team is committed to preserving natural environments and respecting these great terroirs. It favors winegrowers committed to sustainable viticulture. It ensures that no pollutants are discharged into the environment by installing dedicated equipment. As early as 1996, it installed its own wastewater treatment plant.Major renovations were undertaken in 2011: a new storage building was built, and the roof was completely renovated and fitted with photovoltaic panels. The winery also obtained ISO 9001 certification in 2012.
White and rosé wines are vinified at low temperature, with pellicular maceration for certain grape varieties and depending on the health of the grapes. Musts are settled beforehand. Red wines are vinified using traditional methods, with maceration of varying length.
Barrels are used for ageing, sometimes for several months at a time, in the cellar located at the heart of the winery, at a temperature that barely varies throughout the year.
The wines
It's not easy to choose among the wines of the Bonnieux cellar, so rich and varied is the offer. For example, Promesse de Viognier, a white wine from the Mediterranean IGP, is soft, fresh and fruity; Terre d'Antan, a red wine from the Ventoux AOP, is generous, fleshy and woody, one of the nuggets of the appellation; or Révélation, aged in oak barrels, an atypical rosé from the Lubéron AOP, with vanilla and fruity aromas.
In addition, many award-winning wines are available such as Domaine Bastide de Rodon 2018, an elegant red wine, certified organic, which won the Gold Medal at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris in 2019, Éphémère 2020, a long-lasting and very fruity rosé, Gold Medal at the Orange wine competition in 2020 or Orphéa 2020, a fresh, lively and fruity white wine, Gold Medal at the Orange wine competition in 2021.
