The winemaker

The history of the estate

It was at the end of the 1980s, that the Triennes estate took its roots, when the founder of the Dujac estate, Jacques Seysses, Aubert de Villaine and Michel Macaux decided to found a vineyard in the south of France, in Provence, to produce great wines.

The choice was made in 1989 on the property "Le Logis de Nans", located in the Var, on a hillside leaning against the Aurelian Mountains, a few kilometers from the Mediterranean. Covering 46 hectares, the vineyard is quickly renamed "Triennes", in honor of Roman religious festivals that took place every three years in ancient times.

A terroir and a philosophy

On its 46 hectares of vineyards, the vineyard enjoys an ideal microclimate, and is south-facing at an altitude of 350 to 400m. As soon as the estate was purchased, investments were made in the terroir, in order to implement a replanting and overgrafting program. The aim being to make the best massal selection and to choose the right plant material in order to achieve the best union with the climate and the clay-limestone soils.

As early as 1990, the winegrowers took the decision to plant Viognier there, even though at that time it was only planted in the Condrieu AOC, and not in the production area of the Domaine de Triennes. Like the fulfillment of a prophecy, this grape variety became very successful in the region from the late 1990s.

Every two years, the estate is grassed, with the objective of controlling vigor, limiting erosion and integrating organic matter into the soil. And in order to produce wines that are ever more respectful and expressive of the terroir that gives them birth, the estate has been certified in Organic Agriculture since 2011.

In addition to the ecological dimension, the Domaine de Triennes is keen to produce pure and authentic wines that reflect the quality of their terroir. Controlled yields, beautiful acidity and slow ripening help bring to life authentic and complex wines.

The wines

With the goal of producing nice, drinkable wines, the estate strives for gentle winemaking that leaves room for the expression of terroir.

The white wines are designed to offer as much freshness as aroma. The red wines combine fruitiness, character and elegance. A vinification without artifice to bring out the best of the terroir. The rosé wines are aromatic, fruity, fresh and delicate, perfect for a sunny aperitif.
