The winemaker
The history of La Bastide Blanche
La Bastide Blanche has been a family estate for three generations. It was created in 1972 in Sainte Anne du Castellet, on the land of the Bandol appellation d'origine contrôlée. Today it is managed by Michel, Julien and Nicolas Bronzo.
From the moment it settled in Sainte Anne du Castellet, the Bonzo family has wanted to produce wines of the highest quality, taking into account biodiversity and respect for the environment. The measures taken for decades have allowed Bastide Blanche to obtain the AB Agriculture Biologique label. All the wines produced on the estate are therefore organic wines.
The Bastide Blanche vineyard
The vineyard of La Bastide Blanche covers 47 hectares, the vast majority of which are reserved for red wine. The planting of the 42 hectares dedicated to red wine is made up of 62% Mourvèdre, 21% Cinsault, 15% Grenache Noir and the remaining 2% are made up of various secondary grape varieties. The 5 hectares of white wine are composed of 52% Trebbiano (Ugni Blanc), 24% Clairette and the remaining 24% various whites.
The average age of the vines is 38 years and the annual production is 205,000 bottles.
The parcels belong to the Bandol AOC appellation, which has 1,600 hectares of terraced vineyards. They stretch out in a magnificent landscape, in an amphitheater of hills dotted with Mediterranean species.
The soil of the La Bastide Blanche vineyard is dominantly limestone, consisting in particular of scree. It benefits from the Mediterranean climate with the nearby sea, the generous sunshine of southern France and mild temperatures, including during the winter. The Mediterranean Sea spreads its sea air to the area, but the vines are protected from violent winds, thanks to the presence of the imposing Sainte Baume massif. The plots of land are mostly exposed to the southeast.
The domain of La Bastide Blanche is conducted in organic farming and everything is done to preserve the environment. The cultivation practices are constantly improved and chemicals are banned from the vineyard. The soil is thus worked and, when it must still be treated, only natural products are used.
The grape harvest is entirely done manually, as is the sorting.
