The winemaker
The history of Figuière
The Figuière estate belongs to the Combard family, whose winegrowing roots were originally in Burgundy. In the 1970s, Alain Combard developed one of the most prestigious houses in Chablis, together with his friend and associate Michel Laroche. A curious winemaker, but also a sailor and aviator, this insatiable explorer decided in 1992 to set out in search of a terroir quite different from the one he'd been cultivating until then, in Provence.
When Alain Combard discovered the 18-hectare Saint André de Figuière estate, it was love at first sight. All he could think about was raising Provence rosé to the level of the finest whites.
Since then, Magali, Delphine and François have taken over from their father Alain and continue to pursue his ambition. The vineyard has been considerably extended, thanks to the acquisition of Château Barbeiranne in December 2019.
The Figuière vineyard
The Figuière vineyard today covers 125 hectares and benefits from the generous climate so beneficial to the vines of Provence. It is divided into two distinct parts.
- The historic Figuière vineyard, in the commune of La Londe les Maures, a stone's throw from the sea as the crow flies. The vines blend into the typical Provence landscape, amidst forests of cork oak, eucalyptus, arbutus and pine. The soil here is composed of quartz-veined schist.
- The vineyard acquired more recently, in the commune of Pignans, in the locality of Barbeiranne. It nestles in the heart of the inland valley of the Massif des Maures, where it benefits from the contrasting continental climate that marks the seasons, with hot summers and cold winters. The terroir is predominantly clay-limestone.
Figuière's grape varieties are typically Provencal: Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault for reds; Rolle (or Vermentino) for whites.

La cuvée Pionnière - rosé AOP Côtes de Provence
The cuvé Pionnière is the figurehead for Figuière. According to François Combard, "We've managed to make a great white wine with red-skinned grapes! The rosé was in fact conceived as a great white wine, based on Alain Combard's original idea. It's a gastronomic wine, designed for laying down. Cuvée Pionnière surprises with its complexity, which the winegrowing family took so long to develop to achieve the perfect balance between good tannins and wood.
The wine is appreciated for its fatness and volume, but is nonetheless exquisitely delicate in aroma. It boasts a delicate pale pink color, a fresh nose and a subtle palate.
Cuvées Confidentielle - red, rosé and white - Appellation Côte de Provence La Londe
The Confidentielle cuvées reflect Figuière's distinctive mineral character. They are gastronomic wines, belonging to the prestigious La Londe appellation. Thanks to the Combard family's hard work, the cuvées are innovative, with a beautiful salinity, as well as a joyful, light and festive vinous character.
