The winemaker

The history of Domaine la Blaque

In 1987, Mr. Pampus acquired Domaine la Blaque. Nestled in the heart of Provence, in the southern part of the Alpes de Haute Provence, the vineyard covered 50 hectares. The estate's Châteauneuf bastide allowed the new owner to build a semi-underground, air-conditioned cellar. Its 2,000 m² accommodates a barrel cellar that can hold up to 350 Burgundy barrels, a vinification and vatting area, a storage room and a tasting cellar. Mr. Pampus entrusts the management of Domaine la Blaque to Gilles Delsuc, an oenologist with a degree from Dijon University, and his wife Laurence, also an oenologist. They work on developing the vineyard, which now covers 55 hectares.

Pierrevert PDO

The Pierrevert PDO is considered confidential, covering just 300 hectares of vines. Its terroir lies in the southern part of the Alpes de haute Provence and the appellation dates back to 1997.

AOP Pierrevert is the highest appellation in Provence, equidistant between the Mediterranean and the Alps. Its capital, the commune of Pierrevert, is home to five private wineries and one cooperative.

The Domaine la Blaque vineyard

The vineyards of Domaine la Blaque occupy the foothills of the Luberon, at an altitude of between 420 and 550 meters. They benefit from a microclimate that provides 320 days of sunshine a year, with extreme temperature variations between day and night due to the altitude. As a result, grape ripening is optimal, and harvesting usually begins in mid-September.

The soil at Domaine la Blaque is predominantly limestone, with nuances ranging from an almost chalky composition, to heavier, more clayey soils.

For the production of AOP Pierrevert, the white grape varieties are Vermentino, Grenache blanc, Roussanne and Viognier. The red varieties are Carignan, Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Syrah. These grape varieties are complemented by IGP Pinot Noir for red wine and Viognier for white wine.

Domaine la Blaque has been certified organic since 2011. Work is either mechanical or manual for plowing and weeding. The grapes are harvested by hand.
