Château Mentone

A return to the land

The earliest trace of Chateau Mentone can be found in 1033 in clerical writings attesting to their ownership of the place. A number of great families then succeeded each other within the property until the de Gasquet family who will be the instigator of the wine activity of the house. A renowned farmer, it was Charles de Gasquet who developed the vineyard and the castle's heritage. Château Mentone remained in good hands until its acquisition in 2003 by Marie-Pierre Caille. Following her desire for renewal and nature, it is with the help of her father that this Lyonnaise invested in this large-scale project. Her objective: to make Château Mentone a choice wine tourism destination in an idyllic setting where bad wine does not exist. By rethinking the production tool and the hotel offer of the house, it is mission accomplished.

The typical expression of Côtes de Provence

Spread over 32 hectares, the vines of Château Mentone are among the oldest benefiting from the Côtes de Provence appellation. During the process of modernizing the estate, Marie-Pierre Caille took care to preserve most of the property's historic parcels. A fervent defender of the environment, she is committed to preserving the natural heritage of her vineyard. That is why in 2008 she decided to start the conversion of the estate to organic and biodynamic farming. Thanks to these methods and the observed limitation of yields, she preserves the quality of the soils and biodiversity while guaranteeing optimal ripeness of the berries, which then reveal the full potential of their terroir.
Carried out on a clay-limestone soil, permeable and stony, and under a continental climate, the Provençal grape varieties blossom at their best. We find the traditional grape varieties of the Côtes de Provence appellation throughout the estate, with vines of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rolle and Clairette. The wines of the house, whether red, white or rosé are then characterized by their freshness, elegance and balance.

A complete wine tourism offer

Marie-Pierre Caille's desire to make Château Mentone a haven for oenophiles, amateurs and epicureans has not failed. Indeed, the estate has put in place a large number of devices to receive the public within the property. As far as wine is concerned, tastings are offered as well as direct sales while guest rooms and gites await those who wish to spend the night. The Farm-Auberge of the house also promotes the culinary offer of the castle. Finally, a large number of activities are offered such as tennis and petanque games, games for children, hiking or relaxing at the estate's spa.
