The winemaker
An ever-evolving family adventure
Purchased by Catherine and Henri de Saint Victor over 40 years ago, the Château de Pibarnon estate has continued to evolve under the family's creative impetus. When they acquired the 16-hectare estate, only 3.5 hectares were planted with vines. Despite his lack of knowledge of viticulture, it was Henri who threw himself heart and soul into working the vines and expanding the estate.
The entire estate was redesigned, rebuilt and extended. Over the years, the vineyard grew from 3.5 planted hectares to over 50 today. The family's hard work quickly paid off, as by 1980, the estate's wines were winning a large number of medals and establishing their reputation.
Finally, in 2000, Eric de Saint Victor, son of Catherine and Henri, took over the family domaine with the ambition of continuing his parents' work by promoting ever richer, finer and more elegant cuvées. Today, Château de Pibarnon wines can be found throughout France and abroad, and continue to shine with their high quality.
A terroir in the image of the greatest
The Château de Pibarnon estate is built on a unique terroir combining all the elements needed to produce great wines. First of all, it's important to mention the beauty of the setting in which the vineyard is planted. Perched high above the village of La Cadière d'Azur, it overlooks the Mediterranean between the surrounding olive and cypress trees. Planted in a succession of cirques, the landscape that unfolds before your eyes from the Provencal bastide nestled in the hollow of the estate is worthy of the finest theaters of Greek antiquity.
In addition to the paradise it represents, Château de Pibarnon also enjoys a privileged terroir combining a singular geology similar to that of Bordeaux's finest vintages and a micro-climate due to its location, which provides extraordinary thermal regulation and offers Mourvèdre, the region's king grape variety, optimal conditions for ripening the berries. The combination of these conditions, together with the work of man, promises the creation of top-class cuvées.
Critically acclaimed wines
From a promising environment, the de Saint Victor family has managed to reflect the ultimate expression of an exceptional terroir. This is inevitably reflected, to our great delight, in the wines that emerge from this vineyard. Château de Pibarnon wines are marked by depth and power. They are nonetheless voluptuous, fruity and full of finesse.
From the very first vintage vinified by the family in 1978, the medals have been piling up steadily, culminating in a place among the 150 best wines in the world with the 1990 vintage, and the Trophée d'Excellence for its first participation in the International Wine Challenge in 1993.
