The winemaker
History
The estate was built on an ancient Roman road. We know the great role people played in the introduction of grapevines to Provence, which was also first wine-growing region in France... The estate is therefore steeped in history. This is said to have began shortly before the 15th century, with the first traces of vine cultivation.
Ideally situated on a busy thoroughfare at the time, the estate welcomed lords and noblemen passing through the region. It grew in importance recognized as a place not to be missed. Several owners succeeded one another passed on their knowledge of the vineyard. The Château de la Galinière improved in the way it produced its wines over the centuries, but also in the way it received its guests. For the record, Pope Pius VII is said to have slept twice in the château (1809 and 1814). A plaque in the heart of the chapel mentions these dates.
The estate increasingly gave way to vines, which became an important crop in the nineteenth century. In the 1860s, Phylloxera arrived and ravaged an estate that had to be later replanted.
In the 2000s, the estate grew to 40 hectares and was certified 100% organic certified in 2014.
An atypical vision
Château de la Galinière's commitment is strong, as the entire vineyard has been vineyards have been certified. The estate benefits from an incredible mosaic of soils at altitudes ranging from 230 to 257 meters, ideal for year-round sunshine. all year round. Naturally, the domaine's team has also chosen the grape varieties grape varieties best suited to the Mediterranean climate. This is when syrah, grenache, cinsault, cabernet, rolle and viognier.
Thanks to the care taken throughout the year, these grape varieties come to the fore during vinification, which is carefully monitored. There are many details that make Château de la Galinière unique in its vision of viticulture and winemaking. Respect for grape varieties and terroir are the the watchwords. The grapes are harvested at night and then vinified in the most appropriate way (ripeness, grape variety and plot characteristics...).
The estate is also ideally located for vine-growing. In addition to the history which has proven Provence to be a perfect place for vines, the estate also uses the climate climate in its favor. The vineyard is trellised, facing the onslaught of the Mistral wind and and catching the light. The sunshine allows the grapes to reach full maturity, a key element key to making great wines.
With its 100% commitment to organic viticulture, Château de la Galinière is undoubtedly one of the must-visit estates for any wine admirer...
