The winemaker

The history of Bern Castle

Château de Berne is a private estate halfway between Flayosc and Lorgues. It's both a wine estate and a 5-star hotel, where you can discover the wines around an oenology course, as well as a wide range of cultural, rural and sporting activities. Gastronomy is of course at the heart of the hotel's offer, accompanied by the finest wines at your table.

Château de Berne was built in the 18th century. It nestles in 1,000 hectares of typical Provencal hinterland. Organic vines stretch out amid forests and olive groves.

The Côtes de Provence appellation is spread over six major zones, running from west to east. Château de Berne is located in the Haut Pays, with vines covering the limestone hills and valleys. This inland Provence is the least known, yet it excels in the production of exquisitely delicate white and rosé wines.

The Château de Berne vineyard

The Château de Berne vineyard extends over two distinct terroirs. 80% of the 175 hectares of vines are planted on a limestone plateau at an altitude of 300 meters. The cool nights of the Haut Var, due in part to this altitude, lead to slower ripening of the grapes, which benefits the quality of the wine, whose structure is particularly robust, with remarkable aromatic finesse and freshness. The vines are also protected by the surrounding forests.
As this limestone plateau is perfectly drained during rainfall, the vines draw the nutrients they need from deep within the soil. This is why Château de Berne wines are characterized by a pronounced mineral note.

The remaining 20% of the vineyard surrounds Château de Berne. The light, sandy soils lead to the production of richer wines, with flavors as delicious as they are varied.

The Château de Berne vineyards are planted with a wide variety of grape varieties, to give the oenologist in charge of blending a great deal of creative freedom.

A completely organic operation

Since February 2021, the Château de Berne vineyard has been certified organic. It also benefits from the HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) level 3 label, the highest level of certification.

The wines of Château de Berne

Château de Berne produces wines of all three robes, as well as a sparkling wine: Pink Moon - Rosé Extra brut.

Rosé wines

Cuvée Terres de Berne (Côtes de Provence) is the estate's flagship wine. Dominated by acidic grapefruit notes and a floral touch, this cuvée offers a very fresh, well-balanced palate. Powerful and supple, this rosé is a real pleasure wine, very drinkable and a perfect accompaniment to tapas or a summer salad.

You'll also find the following wines: Les Oliviers (Côtes de Provence), Esprit Méditerranée (IGP Méditerranée) and Inspiration (Côtes de Provence).

White wines

White wines include Les Oliviers (Côtes de Provence), Terres de Berne (Côtes de Provence) and Grande Récolte.

Red wines

Grande cuvée is the estate's great red wine. A blend of Syrah and Cabernet-Sauvignon, this original cuvée has a character as fine as it is assertive. Supple and fruity (black fruits and a touch of vanilla), it's a perfect match for red meats, game or grilled meats with herbs.

You'll also find the following wines: Terres de Berne (Côtes de Provence ) and Inspiration.
