The winemaker
In 1974, Jean Mourat created the vineyard that would later become Château Marie du Fou. In 1998, Jérémie joined him, and together they established two estates: Clos Saint-André and Moulin Blanc. Today, these three estates are grouped together under the name "Les Vignobles Mourat".
Of the three estates in the appellation, Château Marie du Fou is the oldest to be taken in hand by the Mourat family, previously a family of wine merchants. Clos St-André is the second estate, producing the finest wines since it was taken over by the Taittinger family in 2006. Finally, Moulin Blanc produces Pinot Noir on a special terroir facing the sea. All these vineyards are now farmed organically, emphasizing Mourat's commitment to quality.
From IGP Val de Loire to the top-of-the-range AOC Fiefs Vendéen, the Mourat family applies its expertise to four wine ranges. Rosé or white, the wines of our friends are full-bodied, pleasant and often original. The whites from Clos Saint-André and Château Marie du Fou are great white wines, unique in their kind and of the highest quality. At Château Marie du fou, white, red and pink wines are produced in the winery. Made from schist and rhyolite terroir, the estate's soils are home to a dozen grape varieties (Chenin, Chardonnay, Pinot noir, etc.).
Under the Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Fiefs Vendéens Mareuil, it's the power of rhyolite and clay that takes pride of place. Finally, there's the O.V.N.I. collection. Here, the white is 80% Sauvignon and 20% Chardonnay, while the rosé is 100% Grolleau gris.
