In a few words ...

In Chavignol, the Boulays have one of the finest terroirs in the village, Clos de Beaujeu. This parcel, with its 70% slope, lies in the culs de beaujeu sector, facing east/south-east, while the monts damnés parcel, which shares the same chalky soil, faces due south. This east-facing exposure lends a rare elegance and refinement to the Sauvignons, which only come into their own after five years. Over twenty years, they evolve towards white truffle aromas. The wines are full-bodied and generous, with exemplary concentration for ageing, especially the very pure Comtesse and the admirable Oriane red, capable of dazzling at over twenty years of age. Domaine Gérard Boulay's Clos de Beaujeu perfectly expresses the terroir from which it comes. The nose reveals beautiful notes of white fruits, exotic fruits, spices and fennel. The palate is concentrated and pure, with aromas of exotic fruit, iodine, white pepper and fleur de sel. There's a superb mineral tension that suggests this wine will last for years.
