The winemaker
Domaine Lucien Crochet was born of the merger of the estates of André Crochet (Lucien's father) and Lucien Picard (his father-in-law). Picard was one of the pioneers of bottling in the Sancerrois region and marketing his wines in Paris in the early 1950s.
Lucien Crochet continued to develop the estate over the next thirty years, bringing it up to its current size of 38 hectares. His son Gilles is now at the head of the estate.
29 hectares are planted with Sauvignon grapes, with which we produce our various white wine cuvées. The 9 hectares planted with Pinot Noir grapes are used to make red and rosé wines.
The vines are mainly located in the village of Bué, but also in the neighboring communes of Sancerre, Crézancy and Vinon. Soils and subsoils are clay-limestone, Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian. Exposure is mainly south, south-west and south-east, so the grapes benefit from maximum sunshine during the summer.
