Wine Jasnières
The Jasnières AOC, already vineyards in the Middle Ages
The 80-hectare appellation is located in the communes of Lhomme and Ruillé-sur-Loir, making it one of the northernmost appellations in the Loire Valley. Vines were already cultivated on the right bank of the Loir in the Middle Ages, by the Cistercian monks of the region. The vineyards were later mapped during the reign of Louis XIV.
The chenin, the only grape variety allowed in the AOC, benefits from a southern exposure, and a temperate climate. The soils of the appellation are composed of clays and flint. It is this terroir that brings minerality to the wines.
Tasting the white wines of Jasnières
The white wines of the AOC are mostly dry, with mellow wines being produced in very small quantities.
The dry whites of Jasnières have a golden coat, quite limpid. The nose reveals fragrances of white flowers, such as acacia or hawthorn. We also detect a very mineral side with gunflint and flint. With time, the wine develops scents of dried fruit and honey, which are found in the mouth. In its youth, this is rather characterised by minerality and delicacy, as well as notes of apple and fresh quince.
These dry whites will be perfect with fish, cooked or smoked, poultry, with scallops or goat cheese.
