The winemaker

The history of the estate

Maurice Vacheron was the founder of the estate, which consisted of a single hectare at its origins in the early 20th century. His son Jean went on to develop the vineyard, acquiring a further three hectares of Pinot Noir and Sauvignon plots. He was also instrumental in gaining recognition for the Sancerre AOC, and served as president of the appellation's winegrowers.
From 1965 onwards, his sons Denis and Jean Louis took over management of the estate and continued his work, further increasing the vineyard area and producing excellent cuvées of white and red Sancerre.

The producer

Jean Laurent Vacheron obtained organic and biodynamic farming certification in 2004. The estate now covers 47 hectares, with two distinct terroirs made up of limestone and flint soils. This is a particularity linked to the presence of the geological fault on which the town of Sancerre is built, and which separates the vineyard into two distinct parts.
The grape varieties are mainly Sauvignon Blanc, with vines averaging 20 years of age, and Pinot Noir, some of which were planted in the 1960s.

The wines

Domaine Vacheron les Romains 2016 is a white wine made from Sauvignon Blanc planted on a flinty terroir. It has a lovely pale, limpid color and offers a fruity aromatic bouquet dominated by citrus and caramelized peach. It's a powerful, mineral wine that's perfect with sweetbreads, shellfish or white meats.

Belle Dame Vacheron 2017 is a light-colored red wine made with 100% Pinot Noir from flint terroirs characterized by the presence of siliceous pebbles, sandy loam, sandstone and limestone. Griotte aromas dominate, and it goes perfectly with Provençal stuffing or sautéed veal parmentier.

Domaine Vacheron Sancerre blanc 2019 is an elegant, tonic and straightforward organic wine. It is made from grape varieties grown on limestone and flint terroirs. It has a limpid color and a fresh nose with aromas of white flowers, flint and citrus. The palate is long-lasting, with fine, elegant flavors.
