The winemaker
It's impossible to sum up 500 years in the life of a winegrowing family. Perhaps only a book, or a novel, could tell the story of 5 centuries of characters, events, anecdotes, evolution, happy days and crises.
We've been winegrowers from father to son since 1508, in the same little village on the banks of the Loire, Chargé. Our ancestors, our parents, chose the most suitable grape varieties on the most appropriate plots of land, defined the best growing conditions and passed down from generation to generation the secret of each vineyard plot, why this grape variety was planted here, why there never was and never will be a vineyard there. Without any written records, the culture of the vine is passed down, the vineyard is restructured.
But the inheritance of the vine is nothing if not passed on the art of blending, for from these many plots, these many terrains, which influence the grape through what we call the terroir effect, there is also an art to vinify each plot differently, so as not to lose anything that nature and the work of the winemaker have already brought. Winemaking also means knowing how to evolve and adapt to new taste trends, not imposing, but listening to the taster.
Our work is our passion. We've inherited it. Let's pass it on.
