Characteristics of the Domaine Le Portail terroir and vineyard
Domaine Le Portail flourishes in the eastern Loire Valley vineyards of Touraine, in Cheverny. For the past twenty years, the Domaine has been committed to sustainable viticulture. The estate's vines include Romorantin, a grape variety whose first vines were planted in the vineyard by François 1er. It is used in the production of AOC Cour Cheverny wines. It is found only in the Loire Valley.
Domaine Le Portail sells Cour-Cheverny, Cheverny and Crémant de Loire appellation wines. Cour-Cheverny wines are full-bodied and long. Cheverny wines are white, rosé or red, like La Moniale, a supple, round wine. Crémants de Loire are hand-harvested. They are made from equal proportions of Chardonnet and Pinot Noir grapes. The red Cheverny Celest'vin is the cuvée to go for, preferably in the 2018 vintage. The white Cour Cheverny should be tasted for its rare grape variety.
