The winemaker
The domains
In Chavignol, the Bourgeois family estate is made up of parcels spread over 72 hectares in the region with varied soils of flint, Kimmeridgian marl and chalky clay. These typical Loire terroirs produce wines with great minerality. The grape varieties are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir,
In New Zealand, at Clos Henri, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are also king.
The expertise of 10 generations of winemakers
Winemaking is an art for the Bourgeois family. It relies not only on family heritage and the experience passed down through each generation, but also on more modern techniques. The producer's instinct does the rest, to offer each vintage wines of excellence, able to express all the richness of the terroirs and grape varieties from which they are made.
Vines are grown with respect for the environment and natural surroundings. Viticultural work and each stage of production are adapted to the specific needs of each plot. Inputs are limited, grass cover is encouraged and yields are controlled to obtain the best possible quality.
Vinification is carried out on a parcel-by-parcel basis, a practice pioneered by the Bourgeois family. It is carried out in the estate's gravity-fed cellar.
The wines
Les Baronnes is a white Sancerre cuvée, a harmonious, powerful wine with notes of citrus and exotic fruit, typical of its terroir. Perfect with fish or scallops. The cuvée has won numerous awards and mentions in specialized guides.
Les Baronnes is a cuvée also produced in Sancerre Rouge, with a wine made from Pinot Noir grapes. It stands out for its aromas of raspberry and Morello cherry with subtle woody notes. This is a fine, complex wine, a great success for the Bourgeois family.
La Bourgeoise and another cuvée in Sancerre Rouge made from a rigorous selection of very old vines. This is a wine with notes of ripe red fruit and vanilla, ruby in color with garnet highlights.
Les Baronnes is also available in Sancerre rosé, with this very fruity cuvée. This is a refreshing, well-balanced rosé wine with aromas of red fruits, apricots and citrus, enhanced by more floral, slightly mentholated notes. It's perfect served chilled as an aperitif or to accompany a summer meal or picnic.
La demoiselle Bourgeois is a Pouilly-Fumé made from a rigorous selection of Sauvignon grapes. It's a great white wine, fine and complex, with fruity aromas and woody notes. It has good ageing potential, from 8 to 10 years, and goes perfectly with fish and poultry.
