The winemaker
The history of Domaine Guiberteau
Domaine Guiberteau has been a winery for 4 generations. The family settled in the commune of Saint Just sur Dive, 12 kilometers from Saumur, in 1934. Since 1996, the estate has been managed by Romain Guiberteau. Since his arrival, the winemaker has restructured the estate. It stretches between Montreuil-Bellay (mostly deep clay soils), Brézé (clay-limestone) and Bizay (clay-limestone). Domaine Guiberteau wines are exclusively Saumur appellation. Romain Guiberteau switched to organic farming in 2003.
The Domaine Guiberteau vineyard
The Domaine Guiberteau vineyard covers 17 hectares. The grape varieties are Cabernet Franc for the red wine and Chenin for the white wine. The vines range in age from 5 to over 80 years. Average annual production is 70,000 bottles. Domaine Guiberteau's vineyards have been farmed organically since 2003. This means that the soil is worked under the rows and grassed naturally. All synthetic products are banned. Only sulfur, copper, essential oils and plant decoctions are used. No yeast, enzymes or stabilizers are added. The grapes are harvested by hand.
The wines of Domaine Guiberteau
All Domaine Guiberteau wines are certified organic. The domaine offers red and white wines, all from the Saumur appellation. The 4 Saumur red cuvées are Les Moulins, Domaine, Les Chapaudaises and Les Arboises. The 5 white Saumur cuvées are Domaine, Les Moulins, Le Clos de Guichaux, Brézé and Le Clos des Carmes.
