The winemaker

A family-owned winery

The history of Domaine de la Chevalerie is intimately linked to that of the family that has run it since 1640. The property has indeed been in the family for thirteen generations, and each has led the estate with the same desire to care for this land, the family heritage, and to pass on and improve nature-friendly viticultural skills.

The estate extends over exceptional terroirs, each with its own particularity and richness, both around the estate and up to the slopes of Benais and Restigné.

The vines are between 25 and 60 years old, depending on the plot, and the grape varieties are mainly Cabernet Franc. There is a wide variety of soils (clay-siliceous, clay and sandy in particular) and exposure. This multitude of geological identity allows us to produce unique vintages, expressing the specificities of each terroir.

The know-how

All the work in the vineyard is conducted with natural practices. Natural balance is promoted through the choice of Guyot Poussard pruning that respects the flow of sap, the use of phytotherapy rather than copper or sulfur, the use of biodynamic preparations and careful monitoring.

The life of the soil is preserved by natural grassing of the vine rows, sometimes supported by leguminous and cereal seeds to structure the soil, but also by contributions of composts preferably biodynamic.

Understanding that a rich and balanced biodiversity will be a guarantee of good health and flourishing of the vines, agroforestry practices have been adopted to preserve the habitat of many species. More than two kilometers of hedges have been planted, made up of various trees and fruit trees. Watering holes and nesting boxes were also installed to encourage birds and bats.

The grapes are harvested at maturity and entirely by hand. The work in the winery is done with gentle vatting and using the indigenous yeasts of the grape. The wines thus express all the richness of their terroir and of each vintage.

The wines

The Domaine de la Chevalerie thus offers both parcel-based vintages and inspired vintages.

The "Chevalerie"cuvée comes from old vines grown on a sandy clay terroir. It is a silky, delicate and elegant wine with great aging potential and aromas of flowers, cherries and raspberries. It is a wonderful accompaniment to a farm veal chop.

The "Grand-Mont"cuvée is a powerful, elegant and greedy wine, with aromas of fresh red fruits and currants and slightly woody peppery notes. It expresses all the beauty of its terroir with great finesse.

Diptyque is a pleasure cuvée, a fruity and supple wine that can be enjoyed with friends, around a simple and joyful meal or as an aperitif. The nose is greedy with notes of dried herbs and black fruits.
