The winemaker

In Anjou-Saumur, the subsoil is predominantly clay-limestone. Tuffeau, the limestone typical of this terroir, reigns supreme. Combined with a cool climate and proximity to the Loire, it produces fine, crystalline wines. Grape varieties include Cabernet Franc for reds, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin for whites. Domaine de Sanzay produces mainly red wines in the Saumur and Saumur-Champigny appellations. The estate is new, and after the initial youthful cuvées, the wines are beginning to assert themselves in production. In red Saumur, the cuvées Les Salles Martin and Les Poyeux are a must in the 2016 vintage. For white Saumur, the 2018 vintage of Les Salles Martin is the first to be tasted.
