On the banks of the Loire, you'll find not only chateaux, but also almost 400 km of vineyards. Whether semi-dry, sweet or syrupy, coteaux du layon wines have subtle aromas of honey and acacia acquired through over-ripening. The 1969 vintage was a difficult one. The summer was dry and hot, but heavy rain fell on the vines in September. The grapes became waterlogged, resulting in slightly diluted wines. Fortunately, some estates coped well.
