The winemaker
Touraine excellence: the Château de Sancerre
A château in existence since the 14th century, whose motto was "Pass before the best", its vineyard recently passed from the Marnier-Lapostolle family to the Italian Campari group, nonetheless, without any change in production manager, heralding future stability as regards wine quality.
A subtle and eclectic terroir
The terroir of Loire Valley wines is a French marvel that Château de Sancerre has exploited judiciously. With over 55 hectares, mainly planted with Sauvignon grapes (and 10% Pinot Noir), the estate boasts several types of soil, favoring the development of subtle grapes (flint, clay, sand and chalk) with vines aged for a minimum of 10 years. Since the 1990s, the estate has been working organically and holds the HVE label, which attests to the biodiversity respected in the vineyard.
Wines "just ahead of the best"
Château de Sancerre produces white, rosé and red wines. White wine from the Loire Valley is renowned for its tangy, fruity taste. Château de Sancerre white, for example, balances the acidity of fruit with the roundness of a flowery perfume. The famous Cuvée du Connétable, aged in barrels for a year, has a smoky character with dried fruit aromas (almonds, hazelnuts). A perfect wine to accompany fish or seafood, or Touraine goat's cheese.
