Wine Cabernet-D'anjou
The Cabernet d'Anjou AOC, 2nd largest producer of rosés in volume
The appellation Cabernet d'Anjou produces semi-dry rosés, mainly in the department of Maine-et-Loire. It covers 48 communes south of Angers, 4450 hectares, and shares its appellation area with the AOC Anjou.
The region witnessed the birth of the vineyard around the 5th century, which was subsequently nurtured by the monks of the neighbouring abbeys. The wines of Anjou already had a good reputation in the 12th century, thanks to the Count of Anjou who, when he became King of England in 1154, had the wines tasted at court. Trade was also facilitated by the proximity of the Loire, which served as a canal.
Cabernet d'Anjou is made from cabernet franc and cabernet-sauvignon. The vines benefit from a temperate oceanic climate to develop and gorge the grapes with sunshine. Finally, the soils of the appellation are mostly schist or chalk.
Taste the Cabernet d'Anjou rosés
Cabernet d'Anjou are gourmet, semi-dry wines, they have a pale pink or salmon colour, which becomes tiled with the years.
The nose reveals extremely fruity scents: we find red fruits with raspberry, redcurrant, white and yellow fruits with peach and pear, as well as exotic fruits. These rosés also offer vegetal scents of pepper, then pepper, rose, mint and with time, candied orange.
On the palate, these are sweet, fresh, tender and lively wines. When sweeter, the Cabernet d'Anjou wines develop notes of candied fruit, and are more suitable for cellaring.
Cabernet d'Anjou rosés can be enjoyed as an aperitif, with cold meats, melon with cured ham, exotic dishes such as chicken with pineapple, or duck cooked in a sweet and sour sauce. These rosés also accompany desserts with fresh red fruits.
