The winemaker

Jacques Frelin defends his values through the cultivation of vines

Since 1983, Jacques Frelin has been a staunch defender of organic wine production. He is a true symbol in France, having fought for organic farming at a time when it was not commonplace. A producer and winemaker for many years, he also founded the Millésime Bio trade show, which awards medals every year to deserving wines. Today, he is vice-president of Sudvinbio and a consultant on European organic farming regulations.

He gave up wine production some ten years ago and now devotes himself to his other activities. As a wine merchant, he is a partner to numerous estates and provides support to winegrowers wishing to start converting to organic farming. Today, his daughter Carole Frelin is the company's sales manager. By 2020, the family will have bought some land to start growing vines again.

Jacques Frelin takes organic wine-producing estates under his wing

The Frelin family is responsible for producing 3 million bottles of organic wine every year. Its vineyards are spread across the South of France. The regions it covers are Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence, Bordeaux and the Loire Valley. It works with its partner producers at all levels, from production to marketing. It provides financial support where necessary. Its aim is to encourage as far as possible the development of methods designed to respect nature and mankind. It is based on the principle that all synthetic chemicals should be eliminated, from the vine to the bottle. To this we add traditional techniques such as choosing a harvest date that corresponds to optimal grape ripeness, or choosing low yields to ensure good concentration of aromas.

Frelin offers a complete range of organic wines from the South of France

Jacques Frelin offers a wide range of organic wines through its partner estates. IGP or varietal wines such as La Marouette or Réserve Naturelle fill the shelves of our organic grocery stores. The vin de France Hérisson Malin has also been a great success, winning two gold medals in 2022. Jacques Frelin's range also includes numerous appellations: AOC Pézenas-Languedoc, AOC Pic Saint Loup, AOC Côtes du Rhône, AOC Saint-Chinian, etc.
