Sieur d'Arques is a cooperative winery that brings together 205 winegrowers. It was founded in 1946, in Limoux, 25 kilometers south of Carcassonne, in the Aude department of the Occitanie region. The Sieur d'Arques vineyard covers 1,800 hectares, dedicated to the production of still and sparkling wines. Still wines represent the Limoux, Pays d'Oc and Haute-Vallée de l'Aude appellations. The winemaker

Sieur d'Arques in the heart of the Languedoc vineyards



Vines were introduced to Languedoc by the Greeks in the 5th century BC. The winegrowing tradition continued over the centuries. The region's first sparkling wine was produced in 1531 by the Benedictine monks of Saint Hilaire Abbey, located a few kilometers from Limoux. Limoux.

The Sieur d'Arques, lord of the region, was immediately won over by this new sparkling wine. He made a habit of including it on his table, notably to celebrate his victories. When the Sieur d'Arques cooperative was founded, the AOC Blanquette de Limoux and Blanquette méthode ancestrale had only just been created, dating back to 1938. They represent the first first AOCs in the Languedoc.

Sieur d'Arques terroir



The Sieur d'Arques terroir is located in the Pyrenean foothills and benefits from both and Mediterranean climatic influences. The average altitude of the vineyards is between 200 and 500 meters above sea level. The soil is mainly clay-limestone.

The main grape varieties for sparkling wines are Mauzac, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. For still wines, AOC Limoux blanc uses mainly Chardonnay. For red reds, the preferred grape varieties are Merlot, Syrah and Grenache, among others.

Sieur d'Arques offers an extremely diversified range, thanks to the multitude of winemakers involved in its production. Wines are available in white, red or rosé. These are wines of great character, with a very varied from one brand to the next.

Red wines have a ruby-red color and flavors reminiscent of red fruit, with spicy nuances Mediterranean Syrah and Grenache grapes. When the grape varieties are with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon, Merlot and Cot, the colors are more nuanced and the flavors flavors are sweeter, tending toward licorice or prune.

Sieur d'Arques white wines are delicate, with fruity, flowery aromas. Their color is rather crystal-clear, with hints of white flowers, plums and peaches.
