The winemaker

Olivier Coste's story

Olivier Coste grew up in the vineyards of southern France. Fascinated by the Languedoc terroir and landscapes, as much as by wine-making, he benefits from his family's ancestral know-how.

Indeed, Domaine Montrose, the family estate, was founded in Pézenas in 1701 by Jacques Alazard. This name justifies the three-lizard coat of arms on the labels. Today, Olivier Coste works with his father, Bernard.

Olivier Coste's vineyard

Olivier Coste's terroir lies around the commune of Pézenas, in the Côtes de Thongue area. The vineyard covers 95 hectares, with plots surrounded by oak, olive and fig trees.

Olivier Coste's objective is zero carbon. In fact, the estate finances ecological projects, aimed at offsetting its CO₂ emissions. The estate is run using integrated farming methods. The winemaker uses mechanical tools to weed, to avoid chemical inputs.

To replace pesticides, he uses pheromones that prevent parasites from reproducing on the vines. To lighten and nourish the soil, grape marc is incorporated. Olivier Coste continually plants trees to preserve biodiversity. He claims to have planted over 2,000 trees to date.

Finally, to limit glass consumption, Olivier Coste uses lightweight eco-designed bottles, which consume far less energy.

Olivier Coste's wines

Olivier Coste offers a range of fresh, fruity and aromatic wines.

Carignan Blanc Rare from the Languedoc Star range

Olivier Coste's Carignan Blanc Rare belongs to its Languedoc Star range. This is a Vin de France from Castelnau-de-Guers in the Hérault. The white Carignan used to make this wine is a rare Mediterranean grape variety.

Only 250 hectares remain, mostly in Languedoc. Olivier Coste's Carignan blanc comes from a 70-year-old parcel planted by the sea, on limestone soil. Always concerned to preserve the grapes, the harvest is carried out at night, to avoid oxidation.

Olivier Coste's Carignan Blanc is an original, lively wine with floral aromas that linger on the palate. It also displays some very appreciable mineral notes.

Cinsault Rouge from the Languedoc Star range

Cinsault Rouge from Olivier Coste's Languedoc Star range is a wine from Valros, in the Hérault region. It belongs to the IGP Pays d'Oc appellation. Cinsault vines flourish on the part of the vineyard whose soil is composed of Villafranchian pebbles.

Olivier Coste's Cinsault is an extremely fruity wine. Strawberry and cherry dominate, with spicy notes arriving a little later, to linger on the finish. This is an ideal wine to accompany Mediterranean cuisine. Its rich aromatic qualities are matched only by its freshness.
