The winemaker

History

The first traces of Mas Foulaquier date back to 1445. At the time, it was owned by the Brissac family. It then changed owners many times, until the Condamy family, of which André and his father were the last representatives. They farmed the property until 1974.

In 1998, Pierre Jequier discovered Mas Foulaquier. Passionate about wine, he decided to leave his architectural practice to pursue his dream of developing winegrowing land. He was joined in 2003 by Blandine Chauchat. She was a parliamentary official in Paris, developing her oenophile skills at the Assemblée Nationale club.

Before joining Pierre, she embarked on a BTS in Viticulture and Oenology in Mâcon and took the time to write a book entitled "Portraits de Vignerons".

The first vintage of Mas Foulaquier was released in 1999. Since then, the vines have aged and improved, while the winemakers have forged their reputation through hard work. The estate produces a wide variety of wines that have found their place in the Languedoc wine market.

The vineyard

The Mas Foulaquier vineyard covers 13.5 hectares: 12 hectares of red, 1.5 hectares of white. Average annual production is 65,000 bottles. The red grape varieties are : Grenache noir, Pinot noir, Lladoner Pelut, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

The white grape varieties are: Picpoul blanc, Muscat à petits grains blancs, Marsanne, Grenache gris, Grenache blanc, Clairette, Chardonnay, Bourboulenc, Viognier, Vermentino, Terret blanc (Terret Bourret), Sauvignon blanc and Roussanne.

Biodynamics from the very beginning of Mas Foulaquier

Since Pierre Jequier took charge of the Mas Foulaquier vineyard, he has decided to cultivate it without chemicals and to use biodynamic methods. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the wines are vinified without the use of oenological products.

Mas Foulaquier obtained organic certification in 2005. The vineyard calendar follows the rhythm of biodynamic sowing. The preparations used for the vines are composed of composted cow dung, silica and decoctions of plants and flowers.

Mas Foulaquier wines

Les Amours Vendangeurs en Grenache - IGP Saint Guilhem Les Désert Rouge

Les Amours Vendangeurs is produced with the finest Grenache grapes from Mas Foulaquier, aged in terracotta amphorae to magnify the wine's minerality. This is a red wine, but with a light color. The nose is floral, dominated by rose. The palate is spicy, with flavors of garrigue and thyme. The wine is easy-drinking and very fresh.

Violetta - IGP Hérault rouge

Violetta is a red wine made from a blend of Carignan and Grenache Noir grapes. It is a gourmet wine with a very fruity nose. On the palate, we find notes of red fruits and spices.
