The winemaker
The history of Mas Becha
Since 2008, the Mas Becha estate has been owned by Charles Perez. Trained at the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin), the young winemaker also describes himself as a poet and philosopher. He has retained a taste for travel and encounters, thanks to which he has been able to learn a great deal. He runs his operation using ancestral know-how, optimized by the use of new technologies.
To help people get to know his terroir and his work better, Charles Perez takes the time to welcome visitors to tour the estate and take part in a tasting of his wines. He is keen to share moments of conviviality, expressing his passion for the vines, the work in the soil and in the cellar, as well as his love of his region, which fills him with its generosity.
The Mas Becha vineyard
The Mas Becha vineyard covers 25 hectares. The hills on which Charles Perez's vines are planted lie on fertile farmland, but also on more arid land, corresponding to the Aspres terroir. The farmland allows him to grow almond, cork oak and olive trees, while the vines benefit from less generous soils, composed of limestone subsoils poor in humus. The vines must sink their roots deep into the earth to draw the water and nutrients they need.
The Mediterranean climate is also highly beneficial to the vines. Mas Becha's grape varieties are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre.
The Mas Becha vineyard is farmed organically. Inputs are used as little as possible, and are preferably made up of natural components. The grapes are harvested by hand, and pre-fermentation maceration is carried out cold, without malolactic fermentation.
Mas Becha wines
Mas Becha produces red, white and rosé wines, as well as vins doux naturels.
The "Family Portraits" cuvées
As Charles Perez likes to surprise, he finds every opportunity to stand out. In addition to his passionately crafted cuvées, he also plays with the packaging of his bottles. Each year, he calls on different artists to create original illustrations. He takes the opportunity to honor the members of his family, and has named his cuvées "Family Portraits".You can taste the red wine of Mas Becha Charles or Serge. For the white wine, you can choose between Béa and Romarin. The rosé is named Ève and the vin doux naturel Élise & Émeric.
