The winemaker

The history of Maison Ventenac

Maison Ventenac was founded by Alain Maurel in 1973. It was then taken over by Stéphanie Ramé, his daughter, and her husband, Olivier. They have completely overhauled the estate, dedicating it to the Languedoc appellation Cabardès.

The Maison Ventenac vineyard

The Maison Ventenac vineyard covers 130 hectares. The vines are planted on hillsides at an altitude of 200 meters. The soil is of lacustrine origin, with a vein of white limestone. This composition influences the estate's wine, which expresses mineral and saline notes.

The vineyards are planted mainly with Cabernet Franc for the reds and Chenin for the whites. It is complemented by many other grape varieties: Colombard, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gros Manseng, Grenache, Merlot, Syrah, etc.

The wines produced by Maison Ventenac are AOC or IGP. The vineyard is farmed organically and holds Ecocert certification. No chemical inputs are used to treat the soil.

The wines of Maison Ventenac

Paria - Rouge

La Paria is a red wine made from 100% Grenache grapes. It is a very fresh and delicate wine. Its color is a pronounced crimson, sometimes tending towards garnet. It is particularly brilliant. The nose is very floral, with aromas of ripe red fruit. Wild strawberries dominate, accompanied by morello cherries and figs. Floral notes gradually emerge in the background.

The palate is very fruity and always light. It is long and fresh. Paria can be served as an aperitif, or at a summer lunch to accompany a barbecue. It works wonders with charcuterie and tapas, beef kebabs and pork chops with thyme.

Prejudice - White

Préjugés white wine is made from a single Chardonnay grape variety. It is a chiselled wine with a strong mineral note. Its light golden yellow color is very bright, even sparkling.

The nose is filled with citrus fruits, pears, pineapple and white flowers. It is imbued with scents of undergrowth and gunflint. The palate is lively and crystalline. The same fruit is present as on the nose. The wine remains fresh right through to its beautiful length. The winemaker recommends decanting the wine a little before serving, and offering it at a temperature of between 10 and 12°C.

Préjugés is ideal as an aperitif, with lump roe toast, or as a starter with shrimp avocado. It also goes well with grilled, smoked or marinated fish. You can also serve it with pan-fried mushrooms with parsley, shrimp skewers with curry or a seasonal vegetable cassolette. It also goes wonderfully well with aged or fresh goat's and cow's cheeses.
