The winemaker
The wineries of Maison Gérard Bertrand
On the death of his father in 1987, he took over the management of the Villemajou wine estate and later acquired Château Laville Bertrou and Domaine de Cigalus. In the early 2000s, he bought Château l'Hospitalet in the Languedoc region. In the following years, 11 other estates in the South of France joined the Maison Gérard Bertrand portfolio: Château la Sauvageonne, Domaine de l'Aigle, Château la Soujole, Clos du Temple, Clos d'Ora, Château les Karantes, Château des 2 rocs, Château Aigue-Vive, Château de Tarailhan, Winery Cap Insula and Domaine de l'Estagère.
A committed viticulture
All the group's estates are managed according to biodynamic principles, respecting nature, biodiversity and the exceptional terroirs of the Languedoc. Biodynamic principles respect the vine's growth cycles and promote harmony between the vineyard and its environment. As a result, the wines express all the typicity of their terroirs, and the group produces Grands Vins that are balanced and delicious. Maison Gérard Bertrand is committed to producing top-quality cuvées, and has made excellence its paramount value. Care of the vines and work in the cellar are carried out with the utmost rigor. Gérard Bertrand is a winemaker who strikes a balance between know-how and intuition.
The group is also a trailblazer, offering singular cuvées to set trends. Innovation is at the heart of the brand's commitment to environmental protection, so important to Gérard Bertrand and his teams. Our estates are managed with a view to sustainable development and reducing their impact on nature. The group is also involved in a project initiated by Yann Arthus Bertrand to plant 10,000 trees in the Languedoc region. Sharing and conviviality are also strong values of the group, a true art of living.
