The winemaker

This method of cultivation encourages a profound respect for nature and its surroundings. Noble red and white grape varieties can express themselves in an exceptional and original way, while preserving the Mediterranean authenticity that is the identity of Languedoc wines. With the purchase of Domaine de Cigalus in 1995, Gérard Bertrand finally found the terroir he had been looking for. A terroir where noble red and white grape varieties can express themselves in an exceptional and original way, while retaining the Mediterranean authenticity that is the identity of Languedoc wines. Taking quality to the extreme, Gérard Bertrand decided to go the Biodynamic route. In 2010, the Domaine was awarded the Demeter label. Biodynamic viticulture is one of the group's core values. A profound respect for the environment and terroir is practiced every day. The basis of this farming method is the use of compost and biodynamic preparations based on medicinal plants instead of chemical treatments. Biodynamics considers all the natural elements surrounding the vine. Domaine de Cigalus was born of the desire to create a world apart in viticulture. Its name reflects the Mediterranean influence of the area. The vines all around the property add to the magic and uniqueness of the Domaine. The silty clay soil and the presence of numerous reeds on the estate indicate an abundance of water. The terroir could be considered too fertile for vine-growing, but the subterranean sandstone slab on which the plots are planted greatly reduces vine productivity. In addition, man's careful management of the vines has enabled us to control their vigor, and thus to obtain wines of the highest quality. If Domaine de Cigalus were a color: rosé / ochre
