This estate of 5 hectares of vineyards was created by Alban Michel in 2005 and is located in the Corbières Maritimes, in Feuilla. He cultivates old vines such as Syrah, 30 years old, and the rest from 50 to 100 years old. They are located on the Hourtoux and Terres Nègres. The estate is divided into 8 parcels. Terre Nègre is composed of degraded schist, while the rest is clay-limestone soil, more or less stony. Find out more

The winemaker

Alban Michel, the pificulteur

Alban Michel was born in Baccarat, in Meurthe-et-Moselle. In 2001, he decided to move to the Ardèche with his girlfriend. After having travelled a lot, he created Les Sabots d'Hélène in 2005. Be careful, he is not a winegrower, as he likes to say: "I am not a winegrower, I am a pificulturist. The pificulture is someone who makes pif. "Indeed, his objective is to make wine simply with a policy of low yields, manual harvesting, systematic picking at optimal maturity and gentle extractions during vinification. All of this is done in order to respect the balance of the grapes and the quality of the fruit. For him, everything else is just "blah blah".

The estate and its vineyards

The estate's vineyards are located amidst overgrown vegetation, surrounded by a wild, desert landscape, in the Corbières. They extend over nearly 5 hectares, spread over 8 parcels. The oldest of them dates back to 1906 and produces up to 5 hectoliters, for an organic production of Carignan, Cinsault and Grenache. In spite of its relatively recent creation, the Albin Michel estate has very quickly established itself as the domain of natural wine. It is moreover the trademark of the house, certified Ecocert.

The wines

Alban Michel has been able to be creative with the names of his wines. But also with his labels. Indeed, his first wine is called: Ni Dieu ni Maître ni Sulfite. And it quickly became a must for "aperitifs charcutaille". You also have the Pas de Bla Blah cuvée which has asserted its character. By way of "La Mauvaise Réputation" which honors the Carignan. With its wines 100% grape and 0% smut, Alban Michel has achieved a real success since the creation of Les Sabots d'Hélène. Products filled with sunshine and fruit, a quirky spirit and vintages that charm you from the first glass.

This outstanding winemaker and still specialist has conquered the world with his atypical natural red wines. Today, Les Sabots d'Hélène exports its wines to Japan and Los Angeles. But Albin, this non-conformist and anarchist original, does not take the head for all that and keeps it well on his shoulders.
