Les Jamelles

4.1
(161 customer reviews)
It was in 1995, in the heart of the Languedoc, that the adventure began for Catherine Delaunay and her husband Laurent. Young oenologists of Burgundian origin, they set out to explore the Pays d'Oc and discovered a region with an unrivalled diversity of grape varieties and terroirs. This discovery, combined with the idea of creating wines for customers looking for simplicity and quality, gave birth to Les Jamelles. For almost 30 years, Catherine Delaunay has been involved in a perpetual process of creation, guaranteeing the style of the wines she composes and blends with her teams, with a philosophy: freshness, balance, expressive and typical of their grape variety. Today, Les Jamelles wines make up one of the largest collections of varietal wines in the South of France, and are sold in over 50 countries. Pleasure wines to match every moment of consumption. The winemaker

Les Jamelles, a singular story of meeting and sharing

In 1986, Catherine and Laurent Delaunay, two young oenologists who both come from Burgundy families, met while studying oenology and decided to join forces to create a unique and authentic range of varietal wines aimed at neophytes and connoisseurs alike. The creation of Les Jamelles wines became a reality in 1995.

The name "Les Jamelles" evokes both the roundness of the wines and the diversity of Pays d'Oc grape varieties, expressed in the plural. The wines were first launched in the United States, then on the French market from 2010. That same year, they were awarded the Trophy for the best Languedoc wine under €10 by Decanter magazine. In 2015, the Les Jamelles winery was set up in Monze, enhancing the quality of the wines. Finally, in 2018, two of their cuvées are chosen to be ambassadors for Pays d'Oc wines.

Rapidity and distinctiveness of these varietal wines

From the South of France, in the Languedoc region, Les Jamelles offer a diversity of terroirs and grape varieties. In total, Catherine and Laurent own around 100 hectares of vines and buy the production of 1,200 hectares from 45 winemakers. Their influence is worldwide: 27 cuvées and 6 million bottles produced per year, with around 70% exported worldwide.

This renown is partly due to the diversity of the ranges on offer: Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Sauvignon blanc and Marsanne. Some wines are emblematic, like Vin Orange. The result of an ancestral winemaking method, this orange wine is made from five grape varieties (Grenache blanc, Viognier, Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Chenin blanc) that give the wine an unexpected style.

In 2019, the Sélection Parcellaire range sees the light of day. Grenache gris de La lauze du Moulin, the only white wine in the Jamelles "Selection Parcellaires" range. It comes from a parcel around the Monze winery, northwest of the Corbières.

Philosophy and state of mind of Les Jamelles wines

Catherine and Laurent's aim is to offer enthusiasts gourmet, authentic, quality varietal wines. Although they produce a large number of cuvées, they remain very sensitive to the fact that each grape variety can find its own terroir to fully express itself.
