The winemaker
Château Argentiès is a spectacular wine estate of over 400 hectares located in Lagrasse, a remote medieval village in the south of France, classified as one of the most beautiful villages in the country. The estate once belonged to the Abbey of Lagrasse, founded by Emperor Charlemagne in 778 and considered one of the most powerful abbeys in France, influential as far away as southern Europe. After the French Revolution in 1793, Château Argentiès was bought at auction by one of only two French families who owned it until we acquired it in January 2011. Legend has it that the mountain of Alaric, which lies on our property, hides the treasure of three kings: Alaric, Caesar and Salomon, guarded by a family of eagles whose wings are featured on our logo.
