The winemaker
Land and vineyards of the Léon Barral estate
True to the Languedoc region, Domaine Léon Barral is built on schist soils. Perfectly drained, they allow the vines to express themselves fully. Facing south/southeast, they produce grapes to die for. In order to preserve the quality of the vines, Léon Barral has adopted a sensible approach to agriculture that serves the ecosystem. Planting hedges, enhancing biodiversity, etc. Léon Barral's farming methods are a model of ecological viticulture.
In terms of grape varieties, the estate boasts eight varieties of Vitis vinifera. To produce red wine, the artisan grows Grenache noir (17%), Carignan (33%), Cinsault (3%), Mourvèdre (27%) and Syrah (20%). And to create refreshing white wines, the emphasis is on Terret blanc (80%), Rousanne (10%) and Vioginer (10%).
The wines of Domaine Léon Barral
32 of the 36 hectares of the Léon Barral estate are dedicated solely to the cultivation of grape varieties for red wines. Unsurprisingly, nearly 90% of the 85,000 bottles produced are Bordeaux. Most bottles are either Faugères or Languedoc-Roussillon table wines. Domaine Léon Barral's round red wines are ideal with red meats and cheeses.
