The winemaker

The history of Domaine La Louvière

The Grohe family acquired Domaine La Louvière in 1992. The father, Klaus, was instantly charmed by the Malepère region, where the hillsides of the commune of Malviès are home to more vines than inhabitants. Supported by his four sons, he undertook a major project, including the transformation of the winery. Their aim was to produce AOP Malepère and IGP Pays d'Oc wines of the highest quality. Today, Nicolas Grohe is in charge of Domaine La Louvière. The AOP Malepère appellation, between Limoux and Carcassonne, remains confidential, but its international team is determined to make its wines known beyond its borders.

The Domaine La Louvière vineyard

The vineyards of Domaine La Louvière stretch out at the foot of the Pyrenees, in the region known as Malepère, some thirty kilometers southwest of the imposing fortress of Carcassonne. They benefit from the Malepère region's microclimate, which avoids excessive heat, which is detrimental to grape development. The Malepère PDO is distinguished by its blend of typically Mediterranean grape varieties. Blends include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

The wines of Domaine La Louvière

Domaine La Louvière wines are among the most famous in the Languedoc. Merlot is the dominant grape variety for AOP Malepère red wines. For rosé wines, Cabernet franc predominates. Five other authorized grape varieties complete the blends: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Malbec, Grenache and Lledoner, a Spanish variety. In addition to AOC Malepère, Domaine La Louvière offers IGP Pays d'Oc wines, as well as sparkling wines belonging to AOP Blanquette de Limoux and AOP Crémant de Limoux.
