The winemaker
<
In 1864, the Fontanel estate was born, but under a different name. The phylloxera crisis and the two world wars brought many ups and downs. As you can imagine, the couple soon gave their name to this little corner of paradise. They improved the way they worked on the estate, both in the vineyards and in the cellar.
In 2017, the estate was spotted by Elodie and Matthieu Collet, a young couple who met through their love of wine. Indeed, after studies and internships in the wine industry, the future lovebirds met and set themselves a common goal: to make wine in their own image. To this end, they decided to take over the Fontanel estate, a land that immediately inspired them...
And we understand why when we see the quality of the terroirs that line the Agly. They settled in Tautavel, where the richness of the terroir is remarkable: soils composed of schistose marl, sandstone and rolled pebbles... The result is wines with mellow tannins, great personality and unfailing finesse.
To preserve this terroir, our protagonists also set themselves another objective: to make very good wine, well and with the lowest possible environmental impact. This one seems to have succeeded, since Domaine Fontanel obtained HVE level 3 certification in 2018, the highest distinction for this label...
