DeCalage estate lets a woman winemaker shine

Domaine DéCalage has been a family estate since 1867. In 2010, Frédéric Delbez inherited part of the land from his father. He then took the committed decision to entrust management to his wife, Nathalie Delbez. Trained as a lawyer, Nathalie Delbez is passionate about this land, which allows her to express her ancestral values. Nathalie Delbez combines traditional farming methods with environmental innovations to bring her project to fruition and play an active role in defending the Méjanelle terroir.

The DéCalage estate fights for the interests of La Méjanelle

On the 22 hectares of Domaine DéCalage and throughout the region, the main issue is fighting urbanization. Historically, this vineyard belonged to wealthy Montpellier residents who bought a plot of vines away from the city. The soil is composed of sandstone, i.e. pebbles that were rolled and deposited by the Rhône over 3,000 years ago. The Mistral and Tramontane winds are dry and cold, blowing strongly. They are mitigated by delicate sea breezes. The Mediterranean climate completes this alchemy, producing wines with great potential.

The exceptional wines of Domaine Décalage

Nathalie Delbez uses her creativity and boldness to produce wines that stand out. They are AOC Côtes-du-Languedoc and Languedoc-La Méjanelle. Since 2012, the wines have been certified organic. Nathalie Delbez chooses to vinify each grape variety individually. She is proud of her old Carignan vines dating back to 1947. The reds are fleshy with spicy aromas. They include Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah. The estate also makes white wines from rolle, grenache blanc and roussanne.
