Domaine de Ravanès
(156 customer reviews)
These Languedoc wines, grown near Béziers, have been in the same family for over four generations. Domaine de Ravanès, set in the sunny Hérault region, uses organic methods of cultivation, which won over international specialists in London in 2004 at a blind tasting where a cuvée from the estate was placed ahead of the "Petrus". The winemaker
Steeped in history and traditions dating back to the Roman Empire, the Domaine de Ravanès is located on the banks of the River Orb, near Béziers. Its clay-limestone soils are planted with quality grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Guy and Marc Benin opted for a high-end positioning back in the 70s. Their wines have character and are atypical. Their uncompromising standards have been the key to their success, and have taken them to the finest tables of top restaurants. Their reputation is now international, and it was with surprise and logic that a blind tasting in London in 2004 placed them above the famous "Pétrus".
Also producing rosés and whites, Domaine de Ravanès particularly stands out for its reds, with natural wines such as the light, sulfite-free "L'Ibis rouge", the supple "L'Alicante Bouschet", an atypical wine for laying down, and the powerful, dense "Gravières du Taurou".
Positioned at the top end of the market, Domaine de Ravanès grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot on clay and limestone soil. The work is carried out entirely on the estate, and with particular care, which explains the quality of the fruit used. Some of the estate's wines are produced using integrated farming methods, while others have the AB Bio label.
