The winemaker

The history of Domaine de La Rectorie

Domaine de La Rectorie was founded in 1984. Marc Parcé had settled in Banyuls sur Mer in 1976 and asked his brother Thierry to join him in 1981 to replace a sick worker. However, as the farm was insufficient to support two families, Thierry left to work on another estate for three years.

This experience enabled him to learn a great deal about the winegrowing profession, as well as to imagine the future cellar of Domaine de La Rectorie. All that remained was to find a few hectares of vines to complete the terroir. And so, rather than taking the grapes to the cooperative, Domaine de La Rectorie was born, with its own means of making its own wine.

The adventure began in 1984. Since then, Marc and Thierry have worked hard to create an estate from scratch, producing renowned wines, and their children have now joined them.

The Domaine de La Rectorie vineyard

The Domaine de La Rectorie vineyard is made up of around thirty parcels. Their diversity is an asset for producing wines with well-defined and unique characters. The terroirs are at varying altitudes, some overlooking the sea, and the vines are scattered on hillsides and terraces.

Domaine de la Rectorie's terroirs are divided into three main areas: the Janési sector, overlooked by the Barlande parcel, the Vallée des Abeilles vineyard, and the Cosprons vineyard.

The various orientations of the plots allow us to choose grape varieties according to the amount of sunshine and to take into account global warming, which is leading to increasingly dry soils. By selecting plots that are sheltered from the sun, Domaine de La Rectorie wines retain their finesse and freshness.

The soil is generally poor, made up of Cambrian schist in a very thin layer of sandy clay resting on the parent rock. The vines can root deeply to draw the moisture and nutrients they need. The main grape variety is Grenache. It is complemented by Mourvèdre, Carignan and Syrah. The grapes are harvested by hand.

The wines of Domaine de La Rectorie

L'Argile - AOC Collioure Blanc

Domaine de la Rectorie's L'Argile is a white wine belonging to the Collioure AOC. It is a blend of 90% Grenache Gris and 10% Grenache Blanc. The nose is rich in white fruits. Iodized and aniseed notes give it a unique flavor. The palate is dense, with a discreet return of salinity. The wine is fresh, with just the right amount of minerality. L'Argile is best drunk young, but also holds up well to ageing.

AOC Banyuls -Thérèse Reig red

AOC Banyuls Thérèse Reig is made with 90% Grenache Noir and 10% Carignan from the oldest vines of Domaine de La Rectorie. This is a very fruity wine. The nose is full of red fruits, such as blackberry and blackcurrant. These are echoed on the palate, with a rich, mouth-filling texture typical of Grenache Noir.
