Domaine Royal de Jarras

4.2
(9 customer reviews)
Domaine Royal de Jarras is considered Europe's largest winegrowing estate, and has been established in Aigues-Mortes in the Languedoc-Roussillon region since 1883. In 2005, Paul-François Vranken bought the estate, marking a new turning point in the vineyard's history, with a new name in homage to Louis IX, who built a port at Aigues-Mortes for the departure of his crusades. Jarras became Domaine Royal de Jarras. Find out more

Domaine Royal de Jarras, a taste journey in the heart of the Gard

To taste the wines of this estate is to discover the wines of the sands, the "Sable de Camargue". The main grape variety used is Grenache, whose juice after pressing is a unique "rosé gris" color, hence the name Gris de Gris.

Domaine Royal de Jarras markets four cuvées, including Pink Flamingo, with its full, generous mouthfeel and notes of white-fleshed fruit. And prestige cuvées such as Favet 9-10 from "Franc de Pied" vines, marked by intense aromas of red berries and toasted almonds. As soon as the harvest is received, the musts are cooled to preserve their aromatic potential. The grapes are then pressed at low pressure to ensure that the best juices are extracted.

A terroir unique in the world

A unique place, the vines of Domaine Royal de Jarras are planted in the sand. The vins des sables appellation is best known for its rosés and gris. The vines grow on Camargue sand and produce grapes full of concentration and intensity.

The estate is located on fossilized barrier beaches that have been built up over the centuries from sediments transported by the Rhône. The environment is wild and has been classified Natura 2000. This network brings together sites considered natural or semi-natural by the European Union, and which have a high heritage value, due to the flora and fauna they contain.

A little history about phylloxera

You've probably heard of it, but in 1860, phylloxera ravaged the world's vineyards. The Petite Camargue was spared thanks to its unique sandy terroir. A soil dreaded by phylloxera. That's why the vines grown here today are called "Franc de Pied", meaning they are not grafted.

The emblem of Camargue wildlife

Did you know? The Pink Flamingo, this fascinating bird is one of the symbols of the Camargue fauna. This is the bird you'll find on the Pink Flamingo vintages. A nod to the environment! Indeed, the Domaine Royal de Jarras benefits from high ecological and environmental quality.

It is certified organic, and works with great respect for flora and fauna. Everything is done to respect biodiversity. The entire vineyard is classified HVE (High Environmental Value), and is ploughed and mowed by 5,000 sheep every year. Looking for a Camargue getaway? Now's the time to order one of our cuvées!
