The winemaker
The birth of an estate
This estate was founded in 2019 by Ekaterina de Cazenove, a young winemaker with a passion for producing natural wine. It was after a career in the food industry that she set about creating this estate, after purchasing the former Saint-Julien-de-Cassagnas train station, which gives its name to the estate and the wines. With her winegrowing training in hand, and after a successful first experience with a Bordeaux winemaker, she bought and planted vines on promising land for which she had had the soil analyzed, benefiting from a gentle slope to promote good soil irrigation, on approx. 6 hectares.
Natural wines
The work in the vineyard, done with her husband Gaetan de Cazenove, follows traditional methods: wooden stakes for trellising the vines, hand-picked harvests... Even the vinification, without added sulfur and with indigenous yeasts, is a tribute to the monks who produced on these lands 800 years ago. Its natural wines have the IGP Cevennes label and are in the process of obtaining the Agriculture Biologique label. The year 2021 will see the launch of the first cuvées: a rosé and two reds, all natural wines with no added sulfites. These first cuvées come from plots already planted with older vines, purchased from a neighboring estate as they are very close to the Cassagnas estate. A wonderful discovery, with moderate alcohol levels for great freshness!
