The winemaker
Le Clos Marie
Le Clos has been established in the Pic Saint-Loup area since 1995. It offers a range of wines highly prized by lovers of fine wines. These express the values of the terroir to perfection, in the Pic Saint-Loup appellation as well as in the Coteaux du Languedoc wines. It belonged to Françoise's grandmother, Maris Julien, who gave her name to the estate.
Thanks to hard work, Clos Marie quickly established itself in the world of Languedoc viticulture. The two winemakers took over the twenty-hectare vineyard in 1995. They immediately made quality their top priority. They began by planting a large number of native grape varieties using massal selection, followed by gobelet pruning, before abandoning the use of new barrels. They also increased planting density to 9,000 vines per hectare.
The Clos Marie vineyard and its wines
Le Clos Marie boasts a two-hectare vineyard, with vines ranging in age from 15 to 100 years, and wines divided between five grape varieties:
-Mourvèdre
-Syrah
-Grenache
-Roussanne and Rolle
-Carignan and Clairette
Christophe and Françoise harvest by hand to optimize the finesse of the red wines they produce. Indeed, their hard work enables them to offer a wide range of wines containing twelve reds, three whites and one rosé. They offer a pure, intense style and give the Pic Saint-Loup appellation back all its letters of nobility.
A gentle blend of strength and finesse for totally accomplished wines. These two winemakers have raised their nectars to the summit of Pic Saint-Loup and the Languedoc.
Experience and know-how
François Peyrus trained with the best winemakers. This not only enabled him to get to know each vineyard parcel, but also to experiment with the best winemaking methods. As for Françoise Julien, her aim has always been to make great wines. Their talent gives each cuvée its own personality, with all the advantages of great wines. And they only get better with time.
