Château Maris
(30 customer reviews)
When Robert Eden and Kevin Parker purchased the property in 1997, their ambition was to create one of the best wines in the Languedoc. Very committed to an environmentally friendly approach, they chose to work their vineyard biodynamically, without the use of pesticides or other chemicals. The Maris estate covers 45 hectares, composed of a multitude of parcels located above the village of La Livinière, the first growth of the Minervois, Languedoc. Find out more

The history of the estate
Founded on La Livinière ("place planted with vines"), in the heart of the Minervois region between Toulouse and Montpellier, Chateau Maris is today established on 45 hectares spread over a multitude of parcels on the hill above La Livinière.
It is Robert Eden, a passionate wine grower, who settled on these lands in 1997 after having traveled to the heart of the most beautiful wine regions of the world. From the start, he has been committed to organic and biodynamic farming. The co-owner of the château, Kevin Parker, is the guarantor of the estate's sustainable philosophy.
Chateau Maris was the first cru recognized in the Languedoc (in Minervois) in 1999.
The terroir
The terroir of the château is characterized by a rather gentle, south-facing slope, thus benefiting from good exposure to the sun. The soils are composed of schist, sandstone, quartz, marble and limestone present for more than 50 million years.
Château Maris is the first vineyard to be certified BCorp in Europe. It is also certified Ecocert 2002, then Biodyvin in 2004 and finally Demeter in 2008.
The wines
The La Touge vintage is a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan. The color is a dark red tending towards inky purple. On the nose, there are notes of black fruits. The mouth is rich and full-bodied, with well-integrated acidity and ripe, juicy tannins. Ideal to accompany red meat, such as beef tenderloins or ribs.
The Brama vintage is a 100% Grenache Gris. To the eye, there is a beautiful golden yellow color with slightly green highlights. The nose has aromas of fresh, concentrated fruit, honeysuckle, lemon zest and buttery almonds. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with an elegant texture enhanced by acidity. This cuvée will complement smoked salmon or a cheese platter.
The Las Combes cuvée is vinified from Grenache. The color is dark purple and the nose offers a bouquet of ripe, tart fruit (pomegranate, cherry, black currant), roasted coffee beans, black olive and garrigue. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied but balanced by a beautiful freshness and a salivating roundness. Its character is juicy and tense, with a finish marked by generous fruit. Las Combes is a perfect accompaniment to a lamb tagine.
The Vermentino cuvée is exclusively from this Italian grape variety. Coming from coastal limestone and clay soils, this wine blends floral notes (hawthorn and lime). Elegant and round, this wine also keeps a refreshing side in mouth. This is a wine to enjoy on a summer evening with mixed salads, grilled meats, poultry or white meats.
The vintage Maris "Le Zulu" is a blend of Grenache and Syrah. The dress is a deep garnet red. Lively and fruity, juicy and a touch salty, it is typical of southern France, combining fruitiness and moderate acidity provided by the terroir. Supple and generous, the mouth confirms the fruity impression given by the nose. A wine for friends, you can drink it at the table with many dishes, or with pizzas or a dish of pasta bolognese.
