The winemaker
The history of Château Le Bouïs
More than 2,000 years ago, the Romans were already cultivating vines on the Massif de la Clape, in the Corbières terroir. The landscape is typical of the region, with its scents of thyme and rosemary, its pine forests, the song of the cicadas and the blue line of the sea as a horizon.
Since 2009, the estate has belonged to Frédérique Olivié. As soon as she arrived, she began restructuring the vineyard, planting over 10 hectares of new vines. The buildings have also been renovated, to improve the production unit.
At the same time, Château Le Bouïs offers a enotourism tour to discover the terroir and learn how to taste the estate's wines.
The Château Le Bouïs vineyard
The Château Le Bouïs vineyard extends over 49 hectares, facing south and facing the Mediterranean Sea, on the edge of the 15,000-hectare La Clape limestone massif. It is one of the region's largest winegrowing operations, producing AOP (Appellation d'Origine Protégée) and IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) Corbières wines. Its wines also belong to the AOC La Clape.
The terroir is composed of alluvial and clay-limestone formations dating from the Quaternary period.
The grape varieties are Syrah, Grenache Noir, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsault for the red wines. For the white, it consists of Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne and Grenache blanc. The oldest vines at Château Le Bouïs are 80 years old.
The vineyards of Château Le Bouïs are managed as naturally as possible, including manual harvesting. Each plot is cultivated and harvested separately, before blending.
The wines of Château Le Bouïs
Cuvée Route Bleu - white - Corbières
Cuvée Route Bleue boasts a beautiful pale yellow color with green highlights. The cuvée was created in 1970, with the planting of new white grape varieties on the estate, just two kilometers from the sea, to take advantage of the iodized sea spray that gives the wine its originality. The nose is full of fresh flavors, with vanilla, pear and grapefruit. The wine is sweet and savory. On the palate, it's airy, always balanced, with roasted aromas.
Cuvée la Cigale - red - Appellation Corbières
Cuvée la Cigale is a wine with a deep, intense red color. Its nose is marked by intense notes of red fruit. These flavors are echoed on the palate, with a long finish that ends with cherry and red fruit aromas. This is a gourmet wine, always perfectly balanced.
Cuvée Confidences - rosé - IGP Pays d'Oc
Cuvée Confidences is an extraordinarily light rosé. It owes its freshness to delicate aromas of peach blossom and citrus fruit. The wine boasts a sparkling, soft pastel-pink color, designed by the famous Parisian couturier Chantal Thomass.
