The winemaker

An exceptional terroir

The grape varieties are varied, with Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache noir, gris et blanc and Muscat.

The vineyards of Château de Rey stretch out at the far end of the Aspres massif, in valleys with stony soils that force the vines to root very deeply, enabling them to better withstand summer droughts.

Viticulture that respects the environment

The practices developed are also in line with this, with the use of ploughing and reasoned farming practices adapted to the climate and singular geology of the terroirs. The use of phytosanitary products is reduced as much as possible. They are used only when absolutely necessary.

The presence of the Tramontane wind naturally protects the vines from humidity, drying the leaves and fruit. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, the grapes are transported in small crates to the cellar and everything is organized to preserve the quality and freshness of the grapes.

The cellar houses the estate's century-old tuns. They allow the wine to have much less contact with the wood during aging than in barrels or casks.

The wines

Galets Roulés is Château de Rey's signature cuvée, available in red, rosé and white.

Galets Roulés rouge 2018 is a deep, fleshy wine, awarded the gold medal at the Lyon International Competition in 2019. Made from a blend of Syrah and Carignan, sometimes complemented by Grenache Noir, it's an intensely colored wine with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and roasted coffee.

Mine de Rey rouge 2016 is another star cuvée from Château de Rey, also awarded a gold medal in 2018 at the Vignerons Indépendants competition. It's a velvety, delicate wine with plenty of freshness and authenticity, an excellent choice to accompany a fine cheese platter or spicy dishes.

La cuvée Mine de Rey blanc 2019 is another award-winning cuvée, with a silver medal awarded in 2019 at the Grenaches du Monde international competition. This AOP Côtes du Roussillon wine is made from a blend of Grenache Gris and Grenache Blanc. It has a beautiful crystalline color with green highlights and aromas of flowers, lemon and blossom, with a hint of ginger. Perfect with white fish.

Château de Rey also offers a range of six Vins Doux Naturels.

One example is the highly successful Vent d'Anges 2005, an AOP Muscat de Rivesaltes wine with a yellow-gold color and aromas of sweet spices, marron glacé and ginger. A Muscat to be enjoyed as an aperitif or digestif.

La cuvée Amb Rey 2018 is another Vin Doux Naturel en AOP Rivesaltes Ambré. Made from Grenache Blanc grapes, it's a complex, full-bodied, delicate wine with a coppery gold color and aromas of candied orange, chestnut and sweet spices.
