The winemaker

The birth of Château de Lastours

The Château de Lastours estate is owned by the Allard family, who work hard to craft wines that are sold around the world. They are renowned for their intensity, as much as their complexity, and delight lovers of fine, elegant wines.

The Château de Lastours estate lies in the region of the Via Domitiana, built by the Romans at the dawn of the first millennium. Already back then, an imposing fortress kept watch over the rural roads that provided access to the main thoroughfare and enabled the transport of wine, a daily necessity for the Roman legions.
A castle had to be built here to accommodate the travelers. It was named Castrum de Turribus. As time went by, so did the invaders, and it became Château de Lastours. The name evokes the watchtowers that kept watch over the Domitian Way.

The Château de Lastours estate

The work carried out by the Allard family on the Château de Lastours estate pursues a quest for authenticity that is reflected in the quality of their wine. The vineyard is farmed organically, with great attention paid to energy savings to further respect nature and its incredible generosity.
The estate is located at the entrance to the Corbières massif, in what is more precisely known as the Corbières Maritimes. It lies near the village of Portel-des-Corbières, 10 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. Its highest point is 300 meters above sea level.

The vineyard is terraced over a hundred hectares, within an undulating estate of over 850 hectares. In addition, 10 hectares are devoted to olive cultivation, as olive oil also contributes to Château de Lastours' excellent reputation. Thousands of oleand and Mediterranean trees, nearly 3,000 in all, complete this magnificent landscape.

Château ewes help preserve biodiversity by mowing the grass in the vineyards. This eliminates the need for weeding, and naturally enriches the soil with animal waste. The château has also been keeping beehives since 2019, which means that Château de Lastours honey will soon be available. Little by little, Château de Lastours wine became known throughout France, and then abroad. Today, it is exported all over the world.
