The winemaker
Built on the remains of an ancient Roman villa, the history of the castle dates back to Gragnos Middle Ages. Restructured in its current form in 1710, it depends on the Duchy of Toulouse and is the stately home of the Counts of Gragnos. Until the French Revolution, the area of Gragnos Castle grows considerably, adding to the growing of vines and wheat, that of silk. Castle Gragnos becomes a family property in 1864. At the heart of a completely unspoilt area of over 80 hectares, the best 20 are dedicated to the breeding of grapes. Planted in the heart of the prestigious AOC Saint-Chinian (AOC), the vineyards of Château de Gragnos cultivated grape varieties typical of the Great Languedoc wines: Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and other varieties (Merlot, Viognier, muscat, Cinsaut). Slight elevation on a south, southwest, the vineyard enjoys a microclimate allowing a gradual maturation of the vine for a perfect expression of its aromas and terroir. It is this exception, combined with the unsurpassed quality of its vineyards, which creates the unique style of Castle Gragnos. A perfect balance between power Grands Vins du Languedoc and freshness more temperate climates. The vines of Chateau between 10 years younger and 70 years for the oldest. Man raw, passionate oenology and father Chai Master son, he favors a wine where technique comes in support of a natural expression of the vineyard and terroir. A new vision of oenology where expertise is at the service of sublimation and not of transformation. Matthew Dubernet designs and assembles the wines of Château Gragnos for the perfect expression of its ancestral know-how, its unique terroir and its inimitable style.
